A heartbreaking and senseless violence occurred last night at Ugbiyokho, Benin City. A woman was brutally beaten almost to death by a young boy — all because of ₦200 pumpkin leaves (ugwu).
What Happened Around 10:30 pm, the woman was about to close her stall when the boy came to buy pumpkin leaves. She sold the leaves to him for ₦200, but the boy complained that the quantity was too small.
Argument started. The boy accused the woman of wasting his time, then suddenly attacked her. He beat the woman mercilessly till she became unconscious.
How She Survived People in the area quickly rushed to rescue her. They rushed the woman to a hospital, but the hospital rejected her, saying she would die there.
The area boys then took her to a nurse in Ugbiyokho who revived her. They later returned to the hospital, and only then did the hospital accept her for treatment.

Truth Delivered This is pure wickedness. Beating a woman almost to death over ₦200 pumpkin leaves is inhuman and unacceptable. Many women who sell small things by the roadside are now living in fear because of people like this.
The police and relevant authorities must arrest this boy immediately and prosecute him to serve as a deterrent. Parents must train their children better. Violence has no place in our society.
