Members of the House of Representatives caucus of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and pledged to intensify opposition against the Federal Government ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmakers, led by House Minority Leader Victor Afam Ogene, made the declaration during a visit to the party’s National Leader, Henry Seriake Dickson, at his Abuja residence.
Among those in the delegation were George Ozodinobi, Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, Lillian Orogbu, Atta Thaddeous Achief, Chijioke Okereke, Peter Ozokwe, Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, Emeka Idu, Manuchim Omezuruike, Muktar Umar Zakari, Yusuf Umar Datti, Peter Aniekwe, and Uchenna Harris Okonkwo.
Also present at the meeting were the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor and ex-presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other party leaders.
“We Will Hold the Government Accountable”
Speaking on behalf of the caucus, Ogene said the visit was meant to reassure the party’s leadership of the lawmakers’ commitment to the NDC’s ideals and their resolve to provide effective opposition in the interest of Nigerians.
“This evening, we are here as members of the House of Representatives Caucus of the NDC to reassure you of our commitment to serve the people of Nigeria in keeping with the motto of our party: service to the people,” he said.
The minority leader stressed that the caucus would continue to hold the government accountable to ensure good governance and democratic dividends for Nigerians.
“In rendering this service, we will hold the government of the day accountable to the people so that they will render to the Nigerian people the necessities associated with democracy and civil rule,” he stated.
Ogene described the NDC as the leading opposition force in the House of Representatives and expressed confidence that the party’s growing strength would amplify its influence.
“We are now the major opposition party in Parliament, especially in the House of Representatives, from where we operate, and with this number, our voice will be strengthened. It will be heard across Nigeria and beyond to hold the government to its responsibility,” he added.
Focus Turns to 2027 Elections and Grassroots Mobilisation
According to Ogene, the caucus’s loyalty to the NDC and commitment to the Nigerian people remain unwavering as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually begin.
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso also urged Nigerians to register with the NDC and obtain their voter cards ahead of the next general election.
He encouraged party members to return to their constituencies and intensify grassroots mobilization, especially among young people and supporters seeking political change.
The renewed show of unity among party leaders signals a stronger opposition strategy as political alignments continue to take shape ahead of 2027.
