The Federal Government has approved N2bn each as take-off grants for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja, and the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe.
The funding is intended to support the early operations and administrative setup of the institutions as they begin academic activities.
Education Minister Inaugurates Key Officials
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed the approval during the inauguration of key officials appointed to lead the two institutions, according to Arise News.
Among those inaugurated were:
- Nosiru Onibon — Pioneer Rector of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja
- Adeola Oshikoya — Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe
- Angela Ajala — Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education
FG Aims to Expand Access to Higher Education
Presenting the letters of appointment in Abuja, the minister said the institutions were established as part of the government’s effort to expand access to higher education and strengthen national capacity in science and innovation.
“Every child in this country deserves access to the highest quality education comparable to global standards. The appointees were carefully selected based on their record of service and achievements across Nigeria’s educational institutions.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. You have been chosen from millions of Nigerians to serve your country, and this recognition extends to your families as well,” the minister said.
Tinubu Administration Focused on Education Reform
The minister also emphasized that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focused on building a stronger education system capable of producing skilled manpower needed for national development.
According to Alausa, the N2bn grants will allow the institutions to establish essential academic and administrative structures.

Institutions Expected to Drive Innovation
Alausa said both institutions are strategically located to take advantage of economic opportunities and human resources in their regions.
He added that the schools are expected to focus on research and innovation in areas including:
- Technological innovation
- Renewable energy
- Climate change response
- Disaster risk management
- Other fields relevant to national development
Focus on Strengthening Teacher Education
The minister also congratulated Ajala on her appointment as Executive Secretary of the NCCE, stressing the importance of teacher education to Nigeria’s education system.
Teacher training institutions, he said, play a critical role in improving learning outcomes across the country.
