Marshal D F Abubakar
There is a massive uproar online today regarding the delayed bail hearing for detained social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as “Justice Crack.” Many young Nigerians are currently pointing accusing fingers at the wrong person. It is time to clear the air with the absolute truth of what actually transpired inside the Federal High Court in Abuja today.

The Raw Facts: The Legal Switch in Court
Justice Crack, who was recently remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations of cybercrime and inciting soldiers, appeared in court today for his highly anticipated bail hearing. Human rights lawyer, Barrister Marshal Abubakar, had already prepared and filed the necessary legal processes to secure his release.
However, intense drama erupted when the presiding judge questioned the defendant. Shockingly, Justice Crack openly refused to recognize Barrister Marshal as his legal representative. Instead, the influencer informed the court that he had chosen a different attorney, identified as Barrister Femi, to handle his defense.

The Immediate Consequences on the Bail
This sudden change of legal representation carried severe consequences. The presiding judge clearly explained that by choosing Barrister Femi, every single legal document and bail application previously filed by Barrister Marshal would be rendered completely useless. The new lawyer would have to start the entire filing process from scratch.
Consequently, Barrister Marshal formally withdrew himself from the case. The immediate result of this sudden switch is that Justice Crack’s bail application could not be heard today. He will remain in custody while his new lawyer files fresh applications, with hopes of a new hearing by Monday.
Truth Delivered: The De Auditor Verdict
I must speak the absolute truth today, and I completely agree with the assessment shared by one of our community members, Fidelis. Accusing Barrister Marshal of working with the opposition to keep Justice Crack detained is completely ignorant of how the law works.
Legally speaking, a lawyer cannot force himself upon a defendant who has explicitly rejected him in open court. Barrister Marshal did the most professional thing by stepping down. If Justice Crack wanted to switch lawyers due to advice from his associates or figures like VDM, the wisest strategy would have been to allow Marshal to finish the bail process first before changing his legal team. Letting ego and outside interference dictate legal strategy has only caused an unnecessary delay in his own freedom. Do not blame the lawyer for a client’s poor timing. Enough is definitely enough!
