situation report
Another bloody attack in Kogi State.
Dekina Local Government Area came under heavy attack, resulting in the death of over 20 people. Among those killed is the Chief Imam of Edede community in Dekina.
What Happened According to reports, attackers targeted the area and killed many residents. The assailants are reportedly going after traditional rulers who are accused of giving out land to Fulani herders and allowing them to hide inside bushes. These rulers allegedly accept cows and money as payment.
The attackers claim this collaboration is leading to increased kidnapping and killing of indigenous people in the area. They have also confronted other traditional rulers and religious leaders.
Truth Delivered This level of violence and targeted killing is unacceptable. No community should live in fear of attacks because of land disputes or alleged collaboration. The killing of a respected Chief Imam and many innocent people shows how dangerous the security situation has become in parts of Kogi State.
The Kogi State Government and security agencies must act fast to arrest the perpetrators and restore peace in Dekina and surrounding areas. Lives are being lost daily, and urgent intervention is needed.
We send our condolences to the families of the deceased, especially the family of the Chief Imam. May their souls rest in peace.
Auditors, this matter is very serious. What is the way forward for communities facing this kind of violence in Kogi State? Should traditional rulers be more careful with land matters? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
